Many clients come to therapy because they feel stuck in recurring emotional patterns that they are unable to resolve on their own. Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) has developed evidence-based, marker-guided therapeutic tasks to help clients access, process, and transform the underlying emotions that maintain these patterns.
Markers are identifiable emotional processing states that signal specific therapeutic tasks and interventions. Learning to recognize markers is a foundational EFT skill that helps therapists understand what is keeping clients emotionally stuck and guides moment-to-moment clinical decision-making. However, working with markers can be challenging. For example, many therapists struggle to recognize subtle or overlapping markers in real time and to determine which marker and therapeutic task should take priority when several possibilities emerge.
Through detailed discussion and analysis of therapy videos, Dr. Leslie Greenberg will demonstrate how experienced EFT therapists identify markers in real time, understand the emotional processes they represent, and select the interventions most likely to facilitate productive emotional processing.
For therapists who are newer to EFT
With the purchase of this workshop, participants will automatically receive 2-month access to a 3-hour recorded workshop with Dr. Leslie Greenberg introducing Emotion Focused Therapy. Learning Objectives
In this workshop, participants will learn how to:
- Identify common emotional processing markers as they emerge in psychotherapy and recognize the underlying emotional processes they signal.
- Differentiate between key client markers and understand how each marker points toward a specific therapeutic task within EFT.
- Analyze moment-to-moment video recordings to identify clients’ emotional processes and determine when an intervention may be indicated.
- Select and apply appropriate EFT interventions based on the client’s current marker and emotional processing state to facilitate deeper emotional processing and therapeutic change.
